Hi all! Recently I’ve been writing a lot of blog posts about really important topics and things I’m really passionate about. However, with today’s blog post, I wanted to tone things down a notch and just chat about some of the awesome things I’ve been learning and discovering lately!
These days, it’s so easy just to stay in our old routines without forcing ourselves to learn new things, get out of our own comfort zones and try something new. Recently, I feel like I’ve done a lot of unintentional discovering so I thought I’d share some of my favourites!
1. Climate Change is Fucking Real (and we need to do something about it)
If you haven’t realised already I’m not sure where you’ve been. It’s so amazing seeing my generation finally stand up for something they are passionate about and be doing something about it so actively! Also, google Greta Thunberg if you haven’t already. Her telling off the world for our terrible approach to climate change is the best thing since sliced bread and if it didn’t give you goosebumps then I don’t know what will.
2. There are so many easy ways to make a positive impact on your world and your community.
In a world full of hate, I don’t think it’s ever been easier to spread kindness. While social media can be a place of negativity and comparison, approaching it with honesty and authenticity can lead to some seriously awesome results. Recently, I’ve been sharing a lot more to my Instagram, specifically my Instagram stories (@livelivelynz) and I’ve been loving getting to know some of the amazing women in the health and wellness industry who are spreading some essential messages. Also, there is an amazing movement of young women who are actively sharing information about things we need to be aware of and are transforming our social media platforms into places of positivity and education. So get out there and send a message to the accounts or people who you love and appreciate and remind them of that. I love contacting the people on social media who make me smile or who get me inspired and remind them of the awesome work they’re doing!

3. Hobbies are important - invest in them!
It’s a bit of a secret fact that I used to play violin. My parents got me into it when I was about 5 and I hated it for years. I only stopped at about age 15 after years of dreaded performances, examinations and lessons. Recently, however, I’ve gone back to my roots and picked up the violin again for another go. I ended up spending a wee bit of money fixing up my old violin (we sold my real one) but soon it was good to go. I was amazed at how easily everything I’d learnt came back to me, now I’m actively trying to practice daily so I can have the freedom to play classical pieces of music that I love. It’s important to remember, your hobbies have to be for you. For example, the gym can’t be a hobby if you’re only going because you feel like society is telling you to, just like how I was only ever doing violin for my parents until I came back to it for myself. Take time to invest in your hobbies, no matter what they are. It’s a form of self care, so dedicate some me-time in your calendar and go forth!
4. Aligning with Nature is one of the best things we can do.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading about how as humans, and especially as women, there is great power in living aligned with nature. As women, we work in a cyclical pattern which lasts 28 days. This pattern is also reflected by the moon - how cool! Ayurvedic medicine is all about how through aligning with nature we can experience great ‘wellness’ and how it encourages our bodies to heal themselves naturally too. There is something about the momentum of living in a cyclical pattern which is super calming to me, it’s leaves you with this feeling that there will always be enough time. It’s no wonder that I’ve fallen in love with this quote, ‘nature never hurries, yet everything gets done!’
5. Breaking the vicious cycle of burnout culture!
Since when was burnout culture so normalised?! I’d argue that our modern education system has a lot to do with it - from a young age we’re taught to only play once our homework is done, to work beyond hard to earn our worth and make our parents proud. It’s no wonder how terrifying the statistics are around our mental health these days. At the moment, I’m focusing on listening to my body, my intuition and my inner self. I’m learning to understand when my body needs rest, and how to only focus my time and energy on things that move the needle or that bring me joy. It’s a crazy transition as it goes against most of the things our current way of living encourages but boy is it freeing!
