We're focusing on trying to find ways to minimise our waste and over-consumption this Christmas season. Here is a super simple DIY idea which is perfect to give to your friends and family!
We all have some family favourite recipes. We figured that this DIY gift idea would be a perfect way to share some of your favourite recipes with the ones you love, while also minimising your waste!
In this blog post, we've featured our favourite Chocolate Cupcake recipe. However any recipe which combines all the dry ingredients at once will be perfect.
The mason jar we used in this is from Kmart (I believe), and if you're picking out jars aim for a larger one with a very airtight lid to help keep the contents fresh.
Prepare your recipe ingredients. Measure out each dry ingredient and place into the mason in any order. You can choose to leave them layered like I have, or you can mix them all together in the jar. Also, I didn't sift any of my ingredients (to be honest I hardly sift anything when I bake) but if you recipe asks you too then go for it!
Here is the recipe for our Chocolate Cupcakes:
Add the following ingredients to your mason jar - 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp gluten-free flour, 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp cocoa powder, 3/4 tsp baking soda, 3/4 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar.
On your gift tag, write the following instructions: Preheat oven to 180c. Mix the dry ingredients together. Add 1 egg, 1/2 cup dairy-free milk (almond), 1/4 cup of oil, 1 tsp vanilla essence and 1/2 cup of boiling water. Combine using electric beaters until smooth. Spoon into prepared tins, and bake for 20 - 22 minutes.
Seal the mason jar tightly and write the required instructions on the back of your gift tag. Add the name of your recipe, and don't forget the oven temperature and baking timing!
