With June just around the corner (I know, can we believe it?), here at Live Lively we thought it would be fun to partake in Junk Free June with our own twist! This month, we’re focusing on cleaning up, cutting down and only letting the good things stay. However rather than just throwing the junk out of our diets, we realised that we needed to do something a little more ‘lively’. Our Junk Free June workbook looks into our diets, homes, lifestyles and habits! Read More for the full details and your FREE PDF workbook to download at the bottom of this blog post!
The Rundown:

To keep things simple, we thought we’d break this month challenge down into weekly focuses which then layer up upon each other. This way, we’re encouraging the gradual layering of changes so that by the end of June we’ve enforced something which is easier to maintain! Having a monthly challenge which changes how you live for a month is great, but having a monthly challenge which changes how you live your life entirely is even better.

Part 1: Preparation & Planning - June 1st to June 2nd
During the first weekend, you’re given the opportunity to plan out and personalise your ‘Junk Free June’ process. Using the attached printable, work through designing how you want your ‘June Free June’ to run and what you are striving to accomplish. This is an important phase as it enables you to get personal and identify what is going to make this monthly challenge effective for you on an individual level.

During Part 1, we also recommend that you prepare the recipes and shopping lists for the second stage (Junk Free Nutrition). This way, the week will go significantly smoother and by reducing the energy required to eat well you’re more likely to stick to your goals.

Finally, this weekend is all about getting inspired and finding motivation. Check out this link to a previous blog post explaining the significant difference between Inspiration and Motivation and how you can find both.

Part 2: Junk Free Nutrition - June 3rd to June 9th
Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty! This is the first stage and arguably the most important. It’s amazing how what we fuel our bodies with can transform the output our bodies are capable of. This week is all about clearing out our diets (and preferably our kitchens) of food which does not align with the nutritional choices we desire for our lives.

However, the most important focus of this week is learning how you fuel yourself effectively again. This includes designing healthy, balanced and nutritious meals throughout the day which enable you to have the energy to live to your fullest potential. Learn our meal prepping tips here!

Tip! How to Design Your ‘Food Rules List’:
The key here is to personalise your diet according to you and your body. You’ll quite quickly be able to identify where your weaknesses are. Perhaps you’re a lover of chocolate and a glass of red wine for dessert and it’s something you wish to get rid of. Identify your issue areas and allow yourself to set some goals on how to transform your diet within your Junk Free Nutrition week. Here’s a list of ideas for inspiration!
- no white bread
- no pastries
- no added sugar
- no chocolate
- no sugary drinks (water or kombucha only)
- no dairy
- no gluten
- avoid simple carbohydrates
- drink at least 1.5 litres a day
- avoid meaningless grazing/snacking
- no alcohol
- no takeaways
- no candy, lollies, or sweets
- no ice cream (even dairy-free)

If you’re wanting to try something different go vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free or paleo! Mix it up and see what diets your body loves the most.

Part 3: Junk Free Home - June 10th to June 16th
Using the Konmari Method of Decluttering as a guide, this week you’ll begin decluttering your space and home. Get the family involved and let’s bring a little more joy into our homes by being fussy with what we allow into our environment. What we bring into our home is sacred, and only the best deserve to enter.

Marie Kondo is changing the world of decluttering with her method known as the ‘Konmari Method’. She explains it in depth throughout her novel, ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up’ which is exactly what we’re basing this week’s activities off! Full details are available in the printable workbook.

Part 4: Junk Free Mind - June 17th to June 23rd
Now that we have made significant changes to your nutrition and the environment you’re commonly surrounded with, it’s easier to tackle your mindset and ensure that you’re comfortable with how you are designing your lifestyle. This concept enables us to specifically design how we want our lives to be, empowering us to re-ignite our ability to control what we let into our day to day life while empowering ourselves to let go of the negative people, moments and habits.

This week is all about understanding your mindset, how you like to set goals and how you work best in achieving them. It’s about finding the gaps in your routine where you need to support yourself better, whether that’s through incorporating moments of meditation, delegating tasks you don’t enjoy to others, or designing routines which encourage you to focus on the layering of healthy habits.

Part 5: June Free Life - June 24th - June 30th
The final step is to put it all together. This week, focus on involving all 3 components (nutrition, home and, mind) into your daily routine and your overall lifestyle. During this week, you’ll begin crafting your new everyday routine which encourages you to maintain and prioritise each of these areas to give them the time and energy they might require of you to maintain them well. This week is all about concreting in the habits you’ve been redesigning throughout the rest of the month so you’re able to maintain them in the future!
